Digital Marketing Advice For Start-ups

Digital Marketing Start-ups Business Strategy

If you are asking yourself “what’s next?” after “successfully using social media marketing” and accumulating enough customers. Here are some recommendations that I have for you:

Create a referral program

If you are wondering how to expand, maybe you can start by creating a referral program for your current customers.

A referral program can encourage your customers to invite their colleagues by giving them an incentive in return. This works best, as recommendations are more likely to be liked and trusted by their colleagues. This is one of the best approaches you can do, as word-of-mouth marketing is effective for any kind of business.

You can post your referral program on your website and on your marketing campaigns. This could be on ads, email marketing, or on your business’ social media accounts.

To implement one, you can create a personalized link or a referral code that is shareable on other platforms.

You can structure your referral rewards by giving them a one sided referral program, i.e. “Refer a friend and get $20” when their friend signs up. Alternatively, consider a split referral program like “Give $10, Get $10”. This encourages both together to sign up and take action.

Using customer reviews to boost your referral marketing is powerful. We can achieve this by encouraging customers to share their thoughts and give positive feedback. You encourage them to give feedback by giving them a small discount on their next purchase. Just note, however, that it is important to have an exceptional product/ service that your customers would genuinely love to make this referral program a success, and I guess you’re doing just that — so congratulations, and cheers to your success!

Have a high-converting landing page linked to your social media accounts

On your social media pages/account, you can put your website link in there that would direct your audience to a landing page, where they can sign up. On the landing page, there should be nothing much fancy, it is ideal to have a direct and a high converting landing page and not just a beautiful one.

Use Email Marketing

Design your email marketing to maximize your social media marketing efforts and any other marketing campaigns. Email Marketing works for small, medium and big businesses out there. It also yields the highest ROI if done the right way. 50% of consumers prefer to get promotions and offers on email compared to other platforms that you can leverage. With that being said, you can set up personalized and targeted email marketing campaigns to nurture your leads and turn them into loyal customers. It doesn’t cost you a penny to send those marketing campaigns to your email subscribers. The only thing that would cost you is the monthly payment for your chosen email provider. Some providers, such as sendgrid or mailchimp even have free accounts with limited monthly sends.

If you get an email marketing specialist and an email copy writer to do it for you, it may cost you more. But the good thing? Your hire can free you a workload and give you massive results in return that make the person/the team worth investing for.

You get many bites at the apple in terms of conversion and if you send high-quality updates to your newsletter, the value of your list only goes up.

The best part? There are so many ways you can build your list. From blog posts to videos to Pinterest pins to IG photos/videos, you can use a wide range of traffic feeds to recruit people to your mailing list. Many niche marketers are using Tik-Tok to build extensive mailing lists. Email marketing can also help you understand and get to know your customers more. You can import your email list to Facebook ads so you can create a ‘look-a-like’ audience to target on your ads.

Implement Messenger Marketing and Have a Good Customer Service

Remember, your customers are important. You don’t want to inconvenience them. Having a live chat on your website, to act as a customer support is important especially to some specific type of businesses. You can also implement chat bots and messenger marketing to drive more sales!

Search Engine Optimisation

SEO is indeed good to help your business get more discovered organically through keywords, especially if you have a blog. SEO is a whole topic in it’s own right and I will address some key targets in a separate post.

Use Google Analytics and Other Tools

Use google analytics to know more about your customers. You can use your/your team’s knowledge (gathered from Google analytics) about your customers for customer targeting when doing ads. SemRUSH and AHREFS are also great tools.

Run your Ads

With all the will in the world, unless you are brave enough to actually push the button, your ads won’t reach your target market. None of us want to look like an ass, but believe me when I say that if your ad does not hit the mark, they will forget it in seconds. You run ads to reach more prospective customers, and get more leads that you can eventually turn into customers.
